USAID's Policy Framework (2023)
This project was completed for the office of the former USAID Administrator Samantha Power. The Policy Framework was USAID’s highest-level policy document. It laid out a collective vision for international development, translated U.S. national security and foreign policy goals into Agency priorities, and promoted coherence among USAID's development, humanitarian, and crisis-response policies and the work we undertook to implement them. It was a resource for both USAID staff and their partners. For staff overseas and at headquarters, it served as a basis for strategy, program, budget, and operational planning. For partners, it clarified USAID's objectives and how we aimed to achieve them, supporting collaboration and mutual accountability among USAID, our partners, and the people and communities we served.
For the previous editions of the Policy Framework (last one released in 2019), the design and layout were completed by a team of designers. For the 2023 edition, USAID did not have the resources to outsource this to an entire team, so I was tasked with taking on this herculean effort. The cover page alone involved two weeks of back-and-forth revisions due to the sensitivity around what images could encompass the five priorities established in the document, as well as the many stakeholders that wanted to have say. The entire project (final document, accompanying graphics, videos, live event materials, and other assets) was a six-month process with an all-hands on deck push for the final week. I'm very proud of the final product as was the writing team and the Administrator.
